During literacy centres this morning, Keerat, Nathan and Marek decided to add actions to the poem called Seasons. Watch, listen and enjoy! Today, we watched Franklin and the Fire. Please talk about ways you and your family can stay safe at home in case of a fire! You can watch this episode again at home. It is a great conversation starter! As we move into spring I thought it would be helpful for you to see some writing samples for grade 1 along with this month's individual writing goals. Please see what your child is working on both in class and at home during writer's workshop. The 5 Finger Rule consists of 5 sentences based around one small moment which is an experience (1st sentence based on small moment, 2nd, 3rd and 4th sentences based on details - 5W's and 1 H) and 5th sentence based on how you felt about the experience and why. I am really trying to encourage students to get away from always writing that something is fun. We had 100% participation! The Falcon Spirit Cup will feel at home with us for the month of March! Way to go grade ones! Ask your child to identify the lines of symmetry in each design. Some might have more than one.
Definition: Symmetry is when one shape becomes exactly like another if you flip, slide or turn it. The simplest type of symmetry is "reflection" (or "Mirror") symmetry. Today we watched this short video to help us learn about which 3D shapes can stack, slide or roll. Yesterday we went on a 2D shape hunt in our school looking specifically for examples of circles, triangles, squares and rectangles. Continue to search for these shapes at home!
We have started an estimation station in our classroom. Thanks to Marek and his family, we have the opportunity to estimate how many marshmallows there are in the jar. Each child will have a turn to bring the jar to school full of something. Please stay tuned for your child's turn. The jar will be sent home on Friday and needs to be returned on Monday. I wonder who will have their turn next? |
