What 3 adjectives can you share about your pizza? Please make a comment.
Everyone had a great time making the skeletons of a variety of 3-D shapes. I think their favourite part was eating the left over marshmallows. Can you remember what the tooth picks represent as well as the marshmallows? Remember to use math words. Today everyone was attempting to write their own descriptive paragraph about their potato chip eating experience. They thoroughly enjoyed it. I am looking forward to sharing a writing sample from each student with you soon. Stay tuned! Read the statements below and think about how you would feel if it happened to you. Remember to be HONEST.
Way to go grade 2's. They have done it again! Our classroom bucket received its last scoop of marbles today. We are celebrating by watching a movie. If you have a G rated DVD that you wouldn't mind sending in with your child, it would be greatly appreciated. Our class, along with Mrs. Switzer's and Ms. Elson's grade two class have signed up to present a song at our upcoming character education assembly in March. I thought it wouldn't hurt to post the video on our blog so that your child can practise singing the song at home as well. We will also be using class time to practise but you know how the saying goes, practise makes perfect! Use this song as a teaching tool and discuss how the song is promoting being honest. What can you do to show honesty at home and at school? Today during math students had an opportunity to learn about symmetry. They were asked to use different manipulatives in the classroom and create a symmetrical design. Symmetry is when you can divide something in half creating mirror images like in the examples below. See if you can identify the line of symmetry in each example. Today we enjoyed using our 5 senses to help us come up with adjectives related to what we see, smell, hear, feel and touch when we think of pancakes. The entire class thoroughly enjoyed it, especially when it came to their sense of taste. What a great day! I just wanted to extend my sincerest thanks to everyone for all of the Valentine's Day cards, treats and gifts. That was so generous and thoughtful! We have done it again. The grade 2's have been having a blast with gonoodle.com Cinar and Lucas had a round of paper, rock, scissors today to see who would be the lucky one to choose our next character. Congratulations Cinar on your win and selection of our newest gonoodle character, Flo Yo. Please send in empty Kleenex boxes for an upcoming craft. They cannot be flattened! Thank you for your support. Stay tuned for pictures of your child's creation! Today, our class had the privilege of learning more about the importance of eating a balanced meal that contains one item from each of the 4 food groups. Students also learned about dairy products and how beneficial they are in keeping our teeth and bones strong! For the month of February, the students at Fieldcrest will be learning what it means to show empathy. Please take some time to continue this conversation at home with your child. Our class regularly participates in brain breaks (DPA). We choose activities from gonoodle.com Each time we complete an activity, our character (Squatchy Berger) goes through a transformation. Today we received a certificate for all of our activity. We will have to say farewell to Squatchy as we will be creating a new mascot for future gonoodle activities. Today during math, students were working in groups to determine the perimeter of their given shape. I was so impressed with how well it went and can't wait to try it out again. Each and every student was engaged, on task and eager to assist their peers if they needed any extra support. It was a great learning opportunity both in math, leadership and character education. Students used base tens and ones to help them add up all of the measurements. The We Club will be holding a Books for Bricks sale on Wednesday and Thursday of this week (January 28-29).
