Today we finished our unit in procedural writing with a tasty treat. Almost everyone enjoyed eating their raspberry jam sandwich. If I only I had more bread, they wouldhave likely ate two. This is what they had to say: Lily-I liked the sandwich! Lucas-My sandwich was so good that I think I'm going to dream about it! Brooke-It was so good and tasty! Christiana-It was so good that I wanted more! Hannah-It was delicious! Natalie-It was sooooooooo good! Today we had a wonderful day of learning. Check out the pictures from the day's events. The kids had a blast! In math, we are learning about MONEY. Please work with your child at home and support them in being able to identify the following coins by their name and value:
-represent, compare, and order whole numbers to 100, including money amounts to 100 cents, using a variety of tools (e.g., coins, number lines and hundreds charts) -add and subtract money amounts to 100 cents using a variety of tools (e.g., concrete materials, drawings) and strategies (e.g., counting on, estimating, representing using symbols) Below is another video with the lyrics to Canada In My Pocket. Practise at home while reading and singing along to this catchy tune! Today, during gym class, we went outside to practise skipping as we gear up for Jump Rope for Heart at Fieldcrest which is taking place on May 14th. It was so awesome to see everyone trying their best to skip. Whether it be on their own, with a partner or with a small group of students, everyone was challenging themselves to skip. See if you can learn some of these cool tricks at home after school. What a beautiful day to get outside, enjoy the fresh spring air and get some EXERCISE. We started Walking Wednesday last week and the whole class did an amazing job keeping fit and having fun! Each lap that they complete around the primary field allows them to receive a popsicle stick. Be sure to ask how many laps they did today. Also, you might want to ask them if they completed the same amount of laps, less or more. We try to be walking for alteast 20 minutes to fulfill our DPA (Daily Physical Activity) for the day.
Each student wrote their own Earth Day Pledge to demonstrate, responsibility which tied in nicely to our character trait for the month of April. Hopefully each student will continue to be responsible and follow through with their pledge. Ask your child what there pledge was. Please continue to practise the following with your child:
We have actually been ahead of the game in grade 2 by making poetry apart of our daily literacy block each day at school. Our Shared Reading has been apart of our literacy program all year. So far, we have been learning about how to write acrostic and diamante poems. The kids and I have been having a lot of fun brainstorming and writing these styles of poetry. Today, I read a book called Alligator Stew by Dennis Lee. If going to the Bradford Public Library is something that you do as a family, having your child sign out a children's book of poems would be a great way to practise reading aloud placing emphasis on fluency, expression and using the punctuation in the poem as a guide for your child's voice.
Discuss ways that you demonstrate RESPONSIBILITY at school and at home. Share a couple of examples for each on our blog. It will be interesting to compare how you show responsibility versus your peers.
Way to go Brooke and Demar! I would like to congratulate you both for receiving a character and Falcon award this month. Keep up the great work. I just wanted to express how proud I am of all of you for all of your hard work and dedication that contributed to such an amazing performance today at our assembly. You guys ROCKED the honesty song and made me very proud! As promised, the grade two students and myself enjoyed ice cream sundaes. Mmmmmm, were they ever good. Our class will be performing the Honesty song along with Mrs. Switzer's and Ms. Elson's class on Tuesday March 31st during the first block (starts at 9:30). If you would like to come and watch us perform we would be so happy to see you there.
Today students worked in partners creating and answering addition and subtraction questions. It was interesting to observe and see what strategies they used to solve each question. What is your favourite strategy to use? Wishing everyone a safe, relaxing and FUN filled week off! I hope you all enjoy spending some extra time with your family and friends. I will look forward to hearing all about it soon. |
